I have a short story–A SPARROW WITH WHITE SCARS– that is now live at Troubadour 21. Make sure to check out the rest of their site while you’re there, especially Chris Dwyer‘s short SOMETIMES YOU CAN’T WAIT FOREVER.

Posted in Uncategorized on August 20, 2009 by nikkorpon

The next installment of our reading series, LAST SUNDAY LAST RITES, will be in two weeks, Sunday 30 August, at 7pm at the Baltimore Hostel. It only costs a handful of awesome. And there are donation Bohs, too.

We have five fantastic readers lined up and we’re incredibly excited about them:

Jen Michalski

Adam Robinson

Jospeh Smith

Lauren Bender and Jamie Perez collaborating.

It’s going to be a blast and we hope you come.

Cheers

Lots of updates!

Posted in Uncategorized on August 18, 2009 by nikkorpon

Sorry for the delays in updating. Moving apartments and all the other boring sundry things that take up way too much time.

Anyway.

-The Winter issue of CAUSE AND EFFECT Magazine is now available, fo real this time.

-I just posted a review of Blake Butler’s SCORCH ATLAS, which if you haven’t read, you need to immediately. It might concume your soul if you don’t; it’s that good.

-I have a short in the new issue of COLOREDCHALK Magazine called ‘Slivers of a Voice,’ alongside Vincent Louis Carella and a ton of other fantastic writers.

-Finally, do yourself a favor and pick up the innagural issue of SIDESHOW FABLES Magazine, the first and only (or at least the best) zine dedicated to side shows and the dark side of circus life. It’s like Carnivale… without the guy from Twin Peaks. Anyway, it’s a beautiful zine and I’m proud to be in the first issue.

More updates to come in the near future, I think.

Godspeed

Last Sunday, Last Rites

Posted in Uncategorized on July 31, 2009 by nikkorpon

…and I completely miss the date on this.

Pat King (from the Outsider Writers Collective) and I started a reading series at the Baltimore Hostel. It’s the last Sunday of every month, starts at 7.00 and features four readers and a musician.

Our first night was this past weekend and we had a fantastic turnout. Mike Cook (who writes for Baltimore Metromix) and Chris Toll (who leads the UPWARD SPIRAL reading series in Hampden) read, as well as Pat and I. Thank you to everyone who came out. Thanks also to the Baltimore Sun and Baltimore City Paper for listing LSLR as their Weekend Critic’s Pick.

The next reading is 30 August. Adam Robinson, Lauren Bender, Joseph Smith and Jen Michalski will be reading.

Colored Chalk and Glass Bubbles

Posted in Uncategorized on June 8, 2009 by nikkorpon

Some good news: Two new stories are available.

BLINK is in the new issue of Colored Chalk, sullying the reputation of all authors it touches.

Also, the Winter issue of Cause and Effect Magazine is officially available. My story, GLASS BUBBLES, is in there, along with A TRENCH IS NO PLACE FOR GOD, from Caleb Ross.

Dig it.

Review Times Deux

Posted in Uncategorized on May 1, 2009 by nikkorpon

I just posted two new reviews at the Outsider Writers Collective: 9987 by Nik Jones, and Pink Icing by Pamela Mordecai.

While you’re at the site, be sure to read the interview with Ben J. Biesek, the publisher of Cause and Effect Magazine, where I will have a story in the somewhat near future.

Image of Mary seen in Colored Chalk!

Posted in Uncategorized on April 7, 2009 by nikkorpon

Maybe images of words about Mary, but nonetheless…

‘Our Blessed Mary’ is live at Colored Chalk in Issue #7, ‘MacGuffins for Hire.’ As always, the line-up is so stellar that my story is only a tiny blight on the Issue. Feel free to print it out and mailbomb your favorite book haunts.

On a side-note: This story is a prequel of sorts to my novel, ‘Stay God.’ Sample chapters are off to the right of the screen.

I just reviewed two books for the Outsider Writers Collective, Treatise by Noah Cicero and City Women and the Ghost Writer by Krishna Bhatt. Be sure to poke around the site; there’s a ton of good stuff there.

New Story

Posted in Uncategorized on March 2, 2009 by nikkorpon

I have a story in Colored Chalk Issue #6, ‘Waking up Strange.’ I’m very flattered to have a story among such great names: Joey Goebel (Commomnweath, The Anomolies,) Joe Meno (The Boy Detective Fails, Demons in the Spring,) Rayo Casablanca (Six Sick Hipsters, and the upcoming Very Mercenary,) Richard Martin (Mixed Animal) Caleb Ross, Simon West-Bulford and a ton of others I can’t rattle off the top of my head. The story’s called ‘She Sleeps Beneath Clouds of Embers,’ and probably one of the darker things I’ve done. Enjoy.

Skipping all the usual social pleasantries, thanks for checking out my work. This is a bit spartan as I’m sort of technophobic, but it’ll do for now. I’m going for the rustic look, at least that’s what I’ll tell people.

There are four stories floating in the ether of publishing queues. I’ll post something when they’re available. In the meantime, here are some recent links to stories (pretty much in chronological order, from what I can remember):

GLASS BUBBLES- published in Cause and Effect Magazine, Issue #12 (Available Soon!)

C’EST MOI-published in the New Voices in Horror Anthology

THE MOURNING IS THE DAWN OF OUR LOVE- published in Gold Dust Magazine, Issue #14

ALEX AND THE MUSIC BOX- published in Out of the Gutter, Issue #5, ‘Revenge’

PUGS- published in Colored Chalk, Issue #5, ‘Sins of the Father’

COMPLICATIONS- published in Colored Chalk, Issue #3, ‘Life After Fire’

‘TIL THE MAN COMES AROUND- published in the Mechanic’s Institute Review, Issue #4
