CURRENTS at Troubadour 21

Posted in Uncategorized on October 22, 2009 by nikkorpon

My short CURRENTS is now live at I’m pretty stoked to have this story out for public eyes; it’s been floating in the ether of my harddrive for a long time. One of those ‘one of my favorite stories but no one likes it’ type of things.

At any rate, Troubadour21 is a fantastic site. There are a ton of different genres, styles, forms and other diversions on there. Be sure to check out Richard Thomas‘s serialized story EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL and Chris Dwyer‘s short VISCOMY. Both are some of my favorite new voices and I can assure you that you will be very uncomfortable after reading them.

$10 is a deal for a Pushcart

So, I was perusing HTMLGIANT a few weeks ago and stumbled across this. I’m down for pretty much anything odd, so I thought I’d give it a shot. Basically, we’ll start at #1, then each person adds 150 words until this Frankenstein behemoth is done. Then Blake nominates it for a Pushcart. Simple, yeah?

Obviously, this says a lot about the state of American fiction–maybe: mainstream American ‘literary’ fiction–that a bunch of other people have said way more eloquently than I can, so I won’t try here. There are a few threads over at HTMLGIANT–and this one via No Colony–you can comment on.

Luckily, I’ll have some friends along for the ride with me: Richard Thomas, Axel Taiari, Caleb J Ross and Christopher Dwyer, along with Shya Scanlon, Ryan Call, Jac Jemc and about 60 others it would take too long to write out. It’ll be interesting, if nothing else.

I’ll keep you posted from this end. I’ve heard it’s beautifully malformed beast.

CHARACTED PIECES, the new chapbook by Caleb J Ross, is now available for pre-order. More information is here.

So, I know people always say Yeah, you owe it to yourself to read this book and all those other hackneyed things. To speak honestly, though, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Caleb through a writing group and Outsider Writers, and there aren’t many peers who inspire me the way Caleb’s writing does.

If you are the type of person who relishes written words–the sentence that encapsultaes a life, the paragraphs of description scraped down to a single image, the phrase that echoes in your head all day–this is the type of book you want to read. These stories will haunt you. Enrich your bookshelf and help support writers who truly care about words.

I have a new flash piece called EUCHARIST that went live at 3AM Magazine today. They are a fantastic site and one I’ve wanted to be in for a long time.

Also, thank you to everyone who came out to LAST SUNDAY, LAST RITES. I know it was a long Book Festivel weekend, filled with more words than one can absorb in a day, but we appreciate the support.

Good news and new stories will be posted soon, so check back…
